A good director will often slip into live-action acting to achieve bonus performance from live talent or imagined. Taking "acting" classes is a plus towards expanding ones vocabulary of emotional motive and expression, getting deeper into the business of understanding why human animals act as they do. We're moving not only objects but souls.
This is also a tribute to Tex Avery's notorious "acting" direction for his animated films.
